How do I get Virus Protection?

  • I would recommend visiting your local computer shop as a first stop.  They are the people who are going to be cleaning up any problem you may have and they are going to recommend the antivirus program they feel most comfortable with.  It makes it easier for them to support you, when you have a problem.  Just remember, usually computer shops charge by the hour and if  you are using the program they feel more comfortable with, they can probably fix it in less time.

  • See what is compatible with your computer and operating system.  A computer shop should be able to tell you but if you are doing it yourself it pays to do a little research.  Especially if you are using more sophisticated operating systems like Windows 2000 or Linux.

  • Most of the antivirus companies have full downloadable demos of their product.  Download the different antivirus programs, try them and then purchase the one that works best for you.

  • If you are a price shopper you can try to find the best price.  I have seen prices range from free up to $60 and more.  Just remember the golden rule.  You usually get what you pay for.  Again, the best thing is the try before you buy or the dealer recommendation.    If you can't afford what your computer dealer wants you to get, don't waste any time and get a free one for the time being.  You can always get the more expensive one later and having something is better than nothing at all.
